I fell in love with batik in childhood when my art teacher showed me how to work with this technique. Batik gives a specific flowing, watercoloured but greasy look. Batik is very recognizable and equally interesting to combine with other techniques. I was most attracted by the combination of illustration and the combination of batik because it can function similarly as a poster or textile print. Batik is translucent to light and the technique itself allows for a large number of color shades. When you put it under a light source, it looks like stained glass. That’s how I came up with the idea that batik is a great technique for making lampshades.
Like textiles, the batik technique also enables the creation of different, multi-purpose items.
